If a guy asked you to split the bill on the second date, would you stop dating him?

He asked me out both times. He paid for the first date, but tonight he asked if it would be fine if we split it. I said ok but was a little peeved... I think the second date is too soon to ask that. Now I feel like he doesnt really like me all that much. am i wrong to think this?
