Have you ever said, "That's okay" when a parent is reprimanding their child?

The only time I ever did that was when a parent was verbally abusing their boy that looked to be about 9yrs old. He accidently bumped into me and the mom started telling him he was stupid and many other things. I put myself between them, looked directly in his eyes and said that it was ok. That I can tell just by looking at him he is going to be someone special and that one day I will be able to brag that he bumped into me as a child. I also told him not to listen when people say mean things to him because they were lies. Then I turned to his mother and told her she should be ashamed of herself and didn't deserve such a beautiful son.
