I'm super shy and awkward:(?

My friend wants me to go with her to this bonfire with all these popular people and i don't feel comfortable because i don't really know the people. I feel like i would choke when talking or they won't wanna talk to me. What are good conversation starters? and any advice about this? I wanna make new friends but idk how
