Am I being petty about asking for one of my things back?

No, you are not being petty. If you were like that couple a few years ago on the news where the guy donated a kidney to his wife, they split up and he asked for the kidney back... That IS petty. But, no, you just want your stuff back. He was probably planning to return it at some point anyway though.
